AI movies about AI

I’m guessing that many of us have discovered we can converse with Artificial Intelligence simply by asking Google questions. If not, try it. It’s both fascinating and eye-opening.

Recently, I grew curious about which movies featuring Artificial Intelligence that AI would rate at the top. Then I asked AI why it picked those three films (along with many, many others). AI quibbled about its own ratings but said a detailed analysis of the films reveals why they are consistently ranked among the most compelling and thought-provoking movies in the AI genre.

(Note: “The AI Genre”!)

Here are AI’s top three film picks:

1) EX_MACHINA (2014), a psychological thriller that explores the nature of consciousness and whether a humanoid AI can truly possess free will.

 2) Her (2013), a poignant romance about a lonely writer who falls in love with an advanced, self-aware operating system, raising questions about intimacy and the human condition.

3) 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), the class film features the iconic, logical, and ultimately unstable AI HAL 9000, which explores the evolution of intelligence and the dangers of giving machines total control.

Next post, I ask AI to take a deeper look at each of these films and their implications for humanity.
